Abdullah Shafique Becomes 11th Pakistani Opening Batter to Score a Double Century in Tests
Colombo, July 26: Pakistan continued to pulverise the hosts, Sri Lanka, in the ongoing Colombo Test, as stylish opening batter scored his maiden double century to become the 11th opener from his country to achieve the feat.
On Day 3, Pakistani batters Abdullah Shafique and skipper Babar Azam resumed the innings with Pakistan just 12 runs ahead of Sri Lanka. Spinner Jayasuriya struck early to send Babar Azam back to the pavilion after scoring 39 runs but Abdullah Shafique continued his merry ways.
Saud Shakeel scored another half-century before getting out. Sarfaraz Ahmed retired hurt after scoring 14 runs. However, the in-form middle-order batter Salman Ali Agha forged another useful undefeated 100-run + partnership with Abdullah Shafique to take Pakistan’s lead beyond 250.
Salman Agha scored yet another fifty in Tests.
Abdullah Shafique bettered his earlier best score of unbeaten 160* which the batter had scored against Sri Lanka on the previous tour in Galle.
