All is Not Well in Congress as Leaders Are Likely to Resign en Mass

March 29, 2025

All is not well in the J&K Congress unit, as several leaders and activists disgruntled with the Pradesh Congress Committee president are considering mass resignations and threatening to join other political parties.

This move comes ahead of the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s national level convention with district presidents of the party across the country.

Congress leaders have written to the AICC leadership apprisng them that J&K Congress Chief has sent a list of his own workers as district president which have not been approved by the All India Congress Committee leadership in New Delhi.

They said he sidelined the approved district presidents of 2023 of Kashmir province and sent his own list for the meeting.

Party insiders suggest that several senior Congress leaders in Kashmir are dissatisfied with the party’s current leadership and the non-functional state of the party in Jammu and Kashmir.

This potential defection is reminiscent of previous instances where Congress leaders in many states have joined BJP and decimated the opposition party.

Disgruntled Congress in Jammu and Kashmir have accused PCC leadership for their  decimal performance in the elections in 2024 assembly elections in JK, and forcing the Congress leadership in New Delhi to form a fact finding committee.

Party sources said that these leaders are in touch with other political parties and have threatened to submit their resignations if this favoritism continues in Kashmir.

The implications of such a move could be significant and potentially decimate the Congress party from Jammu and Kashmir’s political map.

A disgruntled leader said that Congress has been winning more elections in Kashmir Province than in Jammu after the 2008 Amarnath land row. He said the switch over to BJP by the leaders and activists could erase the party from Kashmir’s political field and strengthen the BJP.

Dozens of disgruntled leaders have demanded removal of Incumbent President from his post and demanded a leader who is aligned with Congress ideology.
