Srinagar — Srinagar police on Tuesday confirmed that they have taken cognisance regarding a reported case of sexual assault on a minor student at a private school in the city.
According to sources, on Monday, it was reported that a minor student from the school had been subjected to physical and sexual assault by several classmates. The student was allegedly threatened with further harassment if he disclosed the incident to anyone.
Following the student’s report, the school authorities conducted an investigation into the matter. The investigation revealed that the allegations made by the student were true, prompting immediate action from both the school and the police.
Later on Tuesday afternoon, Srinagar police issued a statement confirming that they had received information from the school’s administrative authority concerning the alleged assault. Based on this information, the police registered a case under FIR 44/2024, citing relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
“Case FIR 44/2024 under relevant sections of POCSO Act stands registered at PS Kothibagh, and an investigation has been initiated,” the police stated.
The case is now under active investigation as authorities work to gather more details and bring those responsible to justice. The incident has raised serious concerns about student safety and the need for stronger protective measures in schools.
