Islamabad, August 09: Sarfaraz Nawaz, former Test fast bowler, is happy again as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to restore his pension. Nawaz’s payments were put on hold in January 2017 after the former pacer allegedly made defamatory statements against former PCB chairman Najam Sethi.
Nawaz is reported to have met with the new PCB chief Zaka Ashraf in Lahore on 8 August with the aim to resolve the suspended ex-gratia payments. According to media reports, Nawaz gave assurances to the PCB that, in future, he will comply with the code of conduct.
Subsequently, Zaka Ashraf handed over a cheque to Nawaz to settle the outstanding payments in the presence of the head of the PCB’s technical committee, Misbah-ul-Haq, and member Mohammad Hafeez.
The payment was made to Nawaz under the PCB’s players’ welfare policy, and the PCB chief assured unconditional support for all former players
