Nissanka Scores 51, Dhananjaya 40; Naseem, Iftikhar & Pathirana Bowl Well
Colombo, 11 August: Colombo Strikers on Sunday won an important T20 game against B-Love Kandy by 9 runs, as the latter failed to successfully chase the required target of 170 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
Though Kandy skipper Wanindu Hasaranga (40 in 21) and Asif Ali (33 in 15) tried their best to launch a counter punch, it wasn’t enough in the end.
Naseem Shah (28/1) and Iftikhar Ahmed (25/1) bowled miserly and claimed a wicket each in their respective quotas of four overs. M. Pathirana took two crucial wickets that of Asif Ali and Bandara.
Earlier, Strikers’ opening batter Pathum Nissanka made 51 in 38 balls, laced with four 4s and a six. N. Dhananjaya batted well for his 40 while Mohammad Nawaz played a cameo, scoring 21 runs with a six and a four. Babar Azam was out early, making only 9 as Angelo Mathews got him caught behind the wicket.
Strikers were 28/2 but Nissanka was ably supported by Nipun Dhananjaya, who made 40 in 29 balls, and Mohammad Nawaz.
Strikers have to win their last game against Galle Titans to qualify for the playoffs.
