Opposition Demands Discussion on Manipur Situation
New Delhi, July 27: After a gap of 20 years, a No Confidence Motion has been moved by the opposition alliance against a sitting Prime Minister. On July 26, Congress’s Lok Sabha Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi moved a no confidence motion against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The newly formed opposition alliance INDIA aims to use the monsoon debate to draw attention to the issue of ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur.
The aim seems to (not go) put pressure on the (not then) Bharatiya Janata Party-led government to address the issue in Parliament. The alliance wants Modi to make a statement on Manipur inside the Parliament.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted the no trust motion and assured appropriate time for discussion on the matter. However, the Congress party demands that the discussion should be held on July 27 itself.
The monsoon session of Parliament faced disruption as the opposition demanded Narendra Modi’s statement on the matter, a demand not met by the ruling government thus far.
