India Floods— Red Alert Issued for Southern Indian States

The Meteorological Department Issues Advisory, Asking People to Stay Indoors

Delhi, July 26: After causing damage in the northern parts of India, heavy rainfall has now moved to southern states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

While urging locals to stay indoors the authorities have issued a Red Alert in south India.

The Indian Meteorological Department predicts “heavy to extremely heavy rains” in several districts of Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala.

The Telangana government declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Wednesday. Several roads are currently inundated in Telangana.

Meanwhile, the weather department In Karnataka also asked people in coastal regions to avoid visiting low-lying areas and the one that are prone to waterlogging. People have been asked to stay away from vulnerable structures which might collapse due to incessant rains.

Earlier, the rains caused massive flooding in North Indian states of Himachal Pradesh, parts of Punjab, Uttarakhand and even New Delhi.
