Rovman Powell’s Power Hitting Not Enough for WI

Guyana, August 08: India’s swashbuckling batter Suryakumar Yadav played a gem of a knock to help his side to stage a stunning comeback in the third T20I in the ongoing 5-match series against West Indies in Providence. India won the match by seven wickets but West Indies are leading the series 2-1 with two more games to go.

Trailing 2-0, India had to win the third match to stay alive in the series.

In pursuit of 160 runs, India lost their opening batter Yashavi Jaiswal in the very first over. Obed McCoy claimed Jaiswal’s wicket.

In walked Suryakumar Yadav at the number three batting position, he dominated the proceedings from the word go. Soon, India lost Shubman Gill on an individual score of 6, leaving India 34/2 in the fifth over. Joseph took Gill’s prized wicket.

But Suryakumar Yadav continued with his aggressive batting style, taking West Indies’ bowlers to the cleaners. He scored 83 runs in just 43 balls. Yadav and young Tilak Varma stitched an 87-run partnership in just 50 balls. Varma remained unbeaten on 49* runs. He had scored his maiden T20I fifty in the previous game and missed his second fifty by one run.

When Yadav was dismissed on the bowling of Alzarri Joseph, India comfortably placed at 121/3 in the 13th over, needing only 39 runs to win in the remaining 44 balls. Skipper Hardik Pandya hit a monstrous six off his opposite number Rovman Powell to win the game in the 18th over.

Earlier, West Indies elected to bat first after winning the toss In Providence, Guyana. Team captain Rovman Powell scored unbeaten 40* runs in only 19 balls to propel his team to a decent total, 159/5, in the allotted 20 overs.

But, in the end, it seemed the home side was 20-25 runs short as India chased the target with ease.
