Kuldeep Yadav Takes 4 Wickets in 3 Overs

Bridgetown, July 27: India’s dashing wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan scored a quick fire fifty (52 in 46), laced with seven fours and a six, to help his side to a nervy victory against West Indies in the first ODI in Bridgetown by 5 wickets.

India achieved the required target in the 23rd over but lost five wickets in the process.

Chasing a modest target of 115 from 50 overs, India lost Shubman Gill early in the piece with scorecard reading 18/1. Suryakumar Yadav joined Ishan Kishan to forge a 36-run partnership before Yadav fell leg before wicket to Gudakesh Motie.

Soon, Hardik Pandya was run out as India were reeling 70/3 in the 14th over.

India made a mess of a chase that should have been a cakewalk.

After Pandya’s dismissal, India lost Ishan Kishan with scoreboard showing 94/4.

Shardul Thakur was out after scoring just one run as India were further dented (97/5) in the 18th over.

Skipper Rohit Sharma came to bat at number 7 position to join Ravindra Jadeja. Sharma hit a boundary to seal victory for his side.

Both Jadeja and Sharma rescued the sinking ship and steered their side to victory without further hiccups.

Earlier, the Indian spinners strangulated the West Indies’ batters. The home side was reduced to 114/10 inside 23 overs.

Barring skipper Shai Hope, who made 43 runs in 45 balls, no Windies batter could stay on the wicket to make a meaningful contribution.

Kuldeep Yadav was impressive in the first ODI as he took a 4-fer in three overs while conceding only six runs. He bowled two maidens.

Jadeja took three wickets and made 17* runs with the bat. Rohit was unbeaten on 12*.
