Kaur Smashed Stumps After Being Adjudged LBW in the 3rd ODI Against Bangladesh
Dhaka, July 24: India women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur could be penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for her ‘rude’ behavior during the third ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, July 22. Kaur openly criticized the umpiring decisions at the post-match presentation.
After being given out leg before wicket (lbw), Kaur, in a fit of rage, hit the stumps with her bat to express her displeasure over the umpiring decision. Section 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct classifies “public criticism†or “inappropriate comment†about “an incident occurring in an international match†of a match official as a Level 2 offence. Section 2.8 puts “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision†as the same.
If charged with a Level 2 offence, Kaur will be either fined 50 to 100 percent of her match fee and given one demerit point, or given two demerit points. For now, it is being reported that Kaur could be fined 75 percent of her match fee.
At the time Kaur was adjudged out by the on-field umpire, India’s score was 160-3. Nahida Akter trapped the Indian skipper plumb in front. Dissatisfied, Kaur smashed the stumps before leaving the ground. India were 216-6 and lost their remaining four wickets for just nine runs as Bangladesh leveled the 3-match ODI series 1-1. India were bundled out for 225. There was no Super Over, as the third and final ODI match between the two sides had already run out of stipulated time.
