Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Alleges Khan Being Maltreated in Prison
Islamabad, August 07: Pakistanâ€™s former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday alleged that his party, Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is concerned about the health and safety of former Prime Minster, Imran Khan.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Qureshi voiced concern about Khanâ€™s safety while alleging that the party leadership is â€œextremely concernedâ€ about Khanâ€™s wellbeing.
â€œOur priority is Khanâ€™s safety and security. We have reasons to believe his life is under threat and I urge the countryâ€™s higher courts to take notice and we do hope that justice will prevail,â€ Qureshi told Al Jazeera.
Khanâ€™s is concerned about his safety and security in prison, saying Khanâ€™s life is â€œunder threatâ€.
The 70-year-old Imran Khan was arrested on August 5 and sent to jail for three years following his conviction in a corruption case by a court in Islamabad.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice chairman of PTI further told Al Jazeera the former prime minister â€œis not being allowed to meet his lawyers for the last two days.â€
Meanwhile, according to PTI, Khan has received a copy of the holy book, Quran, which has granted him strength in â€œtough timesâ€.
