Govt begins inquiry in Pulwama medical negligence death against doctor couple

Pulwama: The Jammu and Kashmir government has started  inquiry to probe the death of a young women due to alleged medical negligence in private Muhamadia Nursing Home in the district.

As per the order issued by Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Jahangir Bakshi, the Committee comprises of chairperson Dr Yasmeen Kangoo, Assistant Director Health Services Kashmir and two members Dr Masood Rashid, Consultant Anaesthesia, District Hospital Shopian, Dr Imran Ali, Consultant Surgeon, Sub District Hospital Kreeri.

As per officials and relatives of the deceased patient, the alleged medical negligence took place in Muhammadia Nursing Home when a senior ENT surgeon Dr Showkat Tak and his wife Dr Iffat were operating on Saboora daughter of Arshid Hussain Bhat of Arihal village of Pulwama district.

As per Official sources, Dr Shokwat Tak is a professor of ENT in GMC and SMHS Srinagar while his wife Dr Iffat is a Consultant Anaesthesia in District Hospital Pulwama. Both the doctors practice privately in Muhammadia Nursing Home in Pulwama.

The doctor couple operated on the patient, a university student, on September 14 (Saturday) for his nose treatment. However, the relatives said she was referred by the doctors to SMHS hospital Srinagar without informing them after she had developed medical complications “due to negligence by the doctor couple”.

She died in the hospital, sending a tragedy of gloom to the family and the whole village.

The death has raised questions on the doctor couple and the relatives want legal action and transparent inquiry into the death.

The District administration Pulwama has sealed the Operation Theatre of the Nursing home so that the doctors and the owners didn’t tamper with the evidence.

The relatives have demanded fair probe and legal action against those found involved in the tragic death of the young woman.
