Amritsar, Punjab: Fugitive Sikh leader Amritpal Singh on Sunday surrendered before the law enforcement agencies soon after delivering a speech at a Gurdwara in Rode hamlet of Moga district in Punjab.
His surrender (arrest) became possible after a 37-day-long hunt by the government forces across the Punjab region.
The village where Singh delivered a speech is also known as Bhindranwale Village.
The Punjab police has confirmed Amritpal Singh’s arrest. Punjab Police in a statement requested asked people to “maintain peace and not spread fake news.â€
“Amritpal Singh arrested in Moga, Punjab. Further details will be shared by Punjab Police. Urge citizens to maintain peace and harmony, Don’t share any fake news, always verify and share,” Punjab police tweeted.
Singh is accused of being a pro-Khalistan preacher. On his part, the Sikh leader has argued that if Hindus demand a Hindu Rashtra why can’t Sikhs demand a separate homeland for Sikhs.
