Saboora’s Family wants strict action against Pvt. Hospital 

Pulwama: The deaths of two women in Pulwama district within a month due to alleged medical negligence have a same connection- alleged overdose of anaesthesia. 

A university going student Saboora Arshid of Arihal village of Pulwama died on September 14 after due to alleged medical negligence when she was operated in Muhammadia Nursing Home in Gangoo in Pulwama outskirts.

Saboora, an MSC student in Kashmir University , her death has left her family in unpardonable shock.

As per the family, Saboora was operated by Dr Showkat Tak and his wife Dr Iffat. Dr Tak is an a senior ENT Professor in Government Medical College in Srinagar while Dr Iffat is a senior anesthetist in District Hospital Pulwama.

Saboora’s family is demanding justice and a fair probe into her death.

“We suspect she died of overdose of anaesthesia, negligence of doctors during her surgery,”the family said.

The District administration had sealed the Operation Theatre of the Nursing home to prevent further negligences and outcry.

Director Health Services Kashmir set up a team of doctors to probe the death of the young woman.

A similar incident happened in District Hospital Pulwama on August 14 when a 50-year-old woman Rafeeqa Banoo died due to alleged “overdose of anaesthesia” during her surgery in the hospital operation theatre. Banoo was admitted in the hospital for treatment of leg fracture surgery.

After outcry by the deceased woman, the medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Abdul Gani Dar ordered probe and assured family of justice. But the probe and justice are still awaiting.

“We don’t know what happened to the probe as the hospital authorises didn’t reach out to us after our mother died. We want justice and legal action against doctors or medical staff so that no other patient dies due to medical negligence like our mother died,” Jahangir Ahmad, son of the deceased Banoo said.

Saboora and Banoo’s death have same connection- both were give anesthesia by Dr Iffat.

Sources in Pulwama hospital said that the doctors in the theatre, mostly anaesthetist are negligent during surgeries.

They said that the hospital administration has not properly deployed assisting staff in the Operation Theatre. Sources said that an FMPHW staff has been deployed in the theatre due to “nepotism and favouritism” while BSC nursing and operation theatre technician staff is deployed for office work.

Medical Superintendent Pulwama Dr Abdul Gani Dar said that inquiry into Banoo’s case is ongoing.
