Manchester, July 19: England fast bowler Stuart Broad on Wednesday achieved a remarkable feat by claiming his 600th scalp in Test cricket while featuring in the fourth match of the ongoing Ashes series.
In the Manchester Test, Broad first removed Australia opening batter Usman Khawaja by trapping the southpaw plumb in front. Khawaja became Broad’s 599th victim.
He then got the prized scalp of in-form Travis Head which became his 600th victim in Test cricket. Only his fellow English bowler James Anderson has more wickets in Test cricket than Broad.
In the coveted list of Most Wicket Takers in Test cricket, Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralidaran (800) leads the table followed by Australian leg spinner Shane Warne (708) while James Anderson is placed third with 688 Test wickets.
India’s former skipper and leg-spinner Anil Kumble is fourth with 619 wickets and now Broad is fifth with 600 scalps.
Meanwhile, Australia are leading the 2023 Ashes 2-1 with one more Test to go.
