Both players share a pretty good relationship since they met in 2019
London, 13 August: Babar Azam has earned a reputation for breaking old world records and creating new ones in cricket. His record in all three formats of the game is second to none.
That is perhaps why even world class batter and India’s poster boy in cricket, Virat Kohli, too speaks very highly of sizzling talent, Babar Azam.
Kohli called Babar “probably the top batsman in the world†across all three formats (Tests, ODIs and T20Is).
What Kohli is to India, Babar is to Pakistan. Currently, Babar is the biggest global sports star, and Kohli understands that.
In an interview with Star Sports, Kohli spoke at length about the bond he shares with Babar Azam.
According to ESPNCricinfo, both players have “always been on good terms†since first meeting in Manchester in 2019.
“The first interaction I had with him [Babar] was during the 2019 [ODI] World Cup after the game in Manchester. I’ve known Imad [Wasim] since the Under-19 World Cup, and he said Babar wanted to have a chat. We sat down and spoke about the game. I saw a lot of regard and respect from him from day one, and that hasn’t changed,” Kohli said in the interview.
“Regardless of the fact he’s probably the top batsman in the world across formats, and rightly so. Performs so consistently and I’ve always enjoyed watching him play,†Kohli added.
