May 6, 2023

Rajouri, May 6: Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh on Saturday visited volatile Rajouri district in the Pir Panchal region in the aftermath of killing of five Indian Army soldiers of special forces during an anti-militancy operation in a forest area.

Rajnath Singh took a review of the overall security situation on his Rajouri visit, a day after five elite para commandos of the Indian army were killed in the forested Kandi area of Rajouri.

Singh condoled the deaths of the army personnel. Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha too had visited Rajouri.

Singh’s visit has come at a time when armed militants have killed 35 people, including 26 Indian soldiers, in eight attacks in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch since October 2021.

Both districts were considered “militancy-free” more than a decade ago.
