Kolkata, May 8: In an important IPL game, KKR won a closely fought game on Monday late evening by five wickets on the last delivery of the match against Punjab Kings at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
KKR in pursuit of 180-run target on a slightly slowish wicket needed 52 runs from the last four overs.
Thanks to a magnificent cameo by Andre Russell (42 in 23), KKR won the nail-biting thriller on the very last delivery when Rinku Singh hit a four of the bowling of Arshdeep Singh.
Russell hit three sixes and three fours at a strike rate of 182.60. KKR captain Nitish Rana also played a decent hand with 51 runs from 38 balls.
Earlier, Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan made 57 from 47 deliveries to help his side put up a decent total of 179 on the board. Shahrukh Khan (21 in 8) and Harpreet Brar (17 in 9) also made handy contributions toward the end.
Varun Chakravarthy took three wickets (26/3) for KKR to restrict PBKS below 180-run mark. For Punjab Kings, Rahul Chahar bowled well, claiming two wicket while conceding only 23 runs in his four overs.
